Service description

The Sulgrave Club deliver the Sulgrave Youth Development Project, which aims to increase young people's participation and engagement through the provision of a wide range of programmes and opportunities for young people in school years 7+.

In the past year

During lockdown, The Sulgrave Club delivered:

  • several online video sessions in performing arts, music production, healthy cooking and fitness via our Instagram page;
  • weekly fitness and football sessions for young people in Ravenscourt Park; and
  • food parcels that benefited 193 children, young people and their families.

Use of volunteers

The service's 6 volunteers delivered 228 hours of work. This is the equivalent to £2,473, if the London Living Wage is applied to the volunteering hours.

Outcomes being achieved

In 2020, The Sulgrave Club delivered:

  • 46 Senior Youth Club sessions on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday nights, attended by 213 young people at an average of 28 per session;
  • 9 Inters Youth Club sessions on Friday nights, attended by 55 young people in school years 6 to 8 at an average of 24 per session;
  • 6 lunchtime youth club sessions at Hammersmith Academy and West London Free School for students in school year 7 attended by an average of 21 young people per session;
  • 6 hours a week of physical activity sessions (football, basketball, table tennis) for 19 weeks attended by 144 young people at an average of 18 young people per session;
  • 2 healthy cooking sessions a week for 19 weeks attended by 106 young people at an average of 16 young people per session;
  • 9 music production workshops attended by an average of 15 young people per workshop;
  • 5 'Power of an Hour' careers-focused workshops, in partnership with Local Village Network, delivered by volunteers from the TV industry, attended by an average of 9 young people per workshop;
  • 1 child protection training course delivered by London Youth attended by 7 young people aged 16+ years; and
  • 1 'Bikeability' bike riding course delivered by Walk & Cycle CIC completed by 5 young people aged 13+ years.

In a February 2020 survey completed by 59 young people taking part in the Sulgrave Youth Development Project:

  • 98% said their relationships with other young people had improved;
  • 92% said they had gained new knowledge and/or learnt new skills;
  • 92% said they had become more confident;
  • 88% said they now wanted to achieve more; and
  • 86% said they had been helped to stay out of trouble

Future plans

In 2021, subject to the easing of Covid-19 restrictions, The Sulgrave Club plans to deliver, :

  • 135 Senior and Inters Youth Club sessions attended by 300 young people at an average of 30 per session;
  • 6 hours per week of physical activity sessions attended by 200 young people at an average of 15 per session;
  • 3 healthy cooking sessions per week attended by 150 young people at an average of 15 per session;
  • 12 healthy living workshops (Body Image, Drugs Awareness, Healthy Relationships, etc) attended by 180 young people at an average of 12 young people per workshop;
  • 2 accredited training courses (eg Food Hygiene and First Aid) attended by 20 young people at an average of 10 young people per course; and
  • 8 days of food parcel deliveries, benefiting 200 children, young people and their families.
