Michael Beale's men continued their strong start to the season with a 2-0 victory over London rivals Millwall on Wednesday evening.
It was the first time either side had played since the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, following the postponement of last weekend's football fixtures. Before kick-off, representatives from both teams left wreaths of remembrance in the centre circle, and a minute's silence was impeccably observed by fans. This was then followed by a rousing rendition of 'God Save The King'.
Despite a high-tempo start from both sides, the score line remained goalless after 45 minutes. Ranger's star man Chris Willock linked up well with Welsh loanee Tyler Roberts in the opening periods, and the duo nearly broke the deadlock after just three minutes after a lovely back-and-forth move.
It was QPR that took the game by the scruff of the neck in the second half. In the 54th minute, Willock received the ball on the edge of the area, perfectly turned, and then fired into the bottom corner past Millwall keeper Bartosz Białkowski.
Sixteen minutes later, following a short corner, R's captain Stefan Johansen strolled into the box with the ball and doubled the lead from a tight angle.
Millwall still had chances late on. With 10 minutes to go, George Honeyman's shot was cleared off the line, and then a few seconds later Zian Flemming hit the underside of the crossbar from distance.
Ultimately however it was a relatively comfortable evening for QPR. Michael Beale's side seems to be coming together nice after a wobblily first few games, and Chris Willock once again proved why he's one of the Championship's top talents.
