QPR's Stan Bowles

QPR have raised over £100k in support of Hoops legend Stan Bowles who is sadly suffering with Alzheimer's with a number of initiatives.

And the figure is set to rise further, as the signed warm-up shirts worn during the Stan Bowles Benefit Match over the summer will be auctioned off on the Just for Stan website.

Over 9,000 supporters went down to Loftus Road for the fundraiser match against Bournemouth that pulled in £35,418 from tickets sales and hospitality.
"It's a fantastic final total and one which I know Stan and his family are hugely grateful for," said QPR CEO Lee Hoos.

"Not only was it an enjoyable day for the Bowles family, but it also heightened awareness of Alzheimer's, which was important for everyone involved."

The Go Fund Me account – which raised over £50,000 – will remain open for some time and Stan's daughter Andria Bowles expressed her thanks, adding: "We are so overwhelmed and grateful by the response to our Dad's condition.

"The amount of money that the fans, the club and all the other people involved have raised for our Dad's care, now and in the future, is just fantastic.

"We cannot stress how much this will help with his care for this terrible illness. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts."

The 68-year-old former England star led QPR out alongside ex-team-mate Gerry Francis on the day which brought back memories of the legendary 1975-76 Rangers side they played in.

That season they were everyone's second team; playing sexy football as Ruud Gullit would have described it but fell at the last hurdle in dramatic style.

QPR finished top of the table that season but were pipped by Liverpool who had an outstanding match due to a fixture pile-up and were allowed to play the tie 10 days after the end of the campaign; which they won 3-1 against Wolves.

Stan was the man. He would torment defenders with his trickery and brought the fans to their feet when he was on the ball.

QPR and the fans have been on the ball in their support of Stan.

Long may it continue.
