Fourteen wins in 47 games did not cut the mustard with the QPR board and Hasselbaink was given his marching orders to leave the R's looking for another manager once again.
The fans will not weep too hard after the dismissal of the Dutchman as many failed to fall in love with the former Chelsea striker in his time at Loftus Road.
QPR are six points off the relegation zone and have suffered to get the results at home but to be fair to Hasselbaink he was steadily finding his feet managing in one of the hardest divisions around.
The regeneration work going on at QPR takes time but the short term mentality that governs the beautiful game means a new manager will have to produce immediately otherwise he too will be picking up a P45 before the season is up as four managers have departed the Rangers' hot seat in the last two years.
Tim Sherwood has been linked with the club since the days of Chris Ramsey but it seems Ian Holloway will take over after losing his job at Millwall in 2015.
Holloway who played for the Hoops during the early Nineties and then returned as manager for another six-year spell in west London could be officially named as the new QPR boss today.
Can he reshuffle the pack and get the R's safely away from the relegation zone? Holloway oozes the old school mentality that Redknapp had; which served him well in W12.
The managerial know-how is certainly there which was evidently missing with Hasselbaink and fans will be familiar with Holloway and his modus operandi.
Holloway has the cheeky personality which may rub up well on certain members of the QPR dressing room and let's hope it will help to eradicate the nightmarish home form which has seen attendances dip off at Loftus Road.
The crucial run of fixtures remains the same in the weeks ahead as they were for Hasselbaink but it is to be seen if the odds will tip in the R's favour with the change in management.
