Tjaronn Chery enjoyed his first start since New Year's Day last weekend.
The Dutchman scored on his return to the starting line-up in the win over Birmingham.
He was playing in the number ten position behind Polter and hopes Hasselbaink starts him there on Saturday against MK Dons.
"It was great to be back on the pitch and to get a goal. It is always hard being on the sidelines and quite frustrating. So I am just happy to be playing and helping the team," said the QPR midfielder.
"The confidence is growing in the team. The win builds confidence and we need to focus on the next match and make sure to get the right result. We must concentrate at one game at a time."
Chery has shown glimpses of his brilliance with two goals in his last three games, taking his tally to 6 this season.
The QPR midfielder was given a standing ovation by the Loftus Road faithful when he came off during the Birmingham match.
It was a far cry from his derby day performance against Fulham in September when he was hauled off after only 30 minutes.
The talent is there and the Hoops fans will expect more goals before the end of the campaign from the 27-year-old.
