Sebastian Polter could have been lining up against Real Madrid in the quarter-finals of the Champions League had he not chosen QPR over Wolfsburg last summer.

The 24-year-old was enamoured with English football and signed on the dotted line at Loftus Road but it took until the start of the new year for Polter to find his form in a QPR shirt.

The German striker has seven goals this season, netting in the last two matches, and feels there is more to come before the end of the season.

"It was difficult coming over from Germany and adapting to a new culture and city as well as a new club and team-mates. But this year I have felt more at home and my style is suited to the Championship. Obviously I would like to have scored more goals this season but it takes time to get used to a new league," said Polter.

"This is the first time I have played outside of Germany and I am still only 24 so it has all been new for me but with time I have felt more at ease and Hasselbaink has given me the guidance and advice which I needed to get the best out of me.

"I hope I can get my name on the scoresheet a few more times before the end of this campaign and help QPR finish as high as possible this season. It was disappointing not coming away with the three points against Preston last weekend just before the international break as we are in a good place right now and deserved more from the game."

It was a hard pill to swallow as QPR were denied a deserved victory over Preston at a ground that Rangers have not won at since 1980.

The draw all but put an end to any faint hopes of a play-off place so the Hoops are simply playing for pride until the end of the season.

The international break is a welcomed respite for the R's players who have not been allowed to take their foot off the gas since Hasselbaink took over.

With no game this weekend, the Hoops can find some time to work on specific things in training which are not usually possible in the hectic schedule of the Championship.

The extended preparation will be crucial with the visit of Middlesbrough next Friday as Rangers look to continue their winning streak at home after impressive victories over Birmingham, Derby and Brentford.
