Clint Hill dusted down his boots for a rare appearance against Derby midweek and will need them again on Saturday.
The 37-year-old put in a solid performance in only his second match since the turn of the year.
Mr QPR has been kept out of the starting eleven by Grant Hall who is currently sidelined with a foot injury.
Hill will play against Brentford on Saturday in another west London derby.
"Obviously I would rather be playing than sitting on the bench but Hall has been phenomenal this season. He has put in big performances and established himself in the heart of the defence," said Hill.
"But now the boss needs me and I am ready to play my part for the team. I'm not a spring chicken anymore but I feel I can still give a lot to the team and I'm relishing the fact that I'm still playing at a high level at the age of 37."
It has not been easy viewing for Hoops fans with just four wins since Hasselbaink took over.
And Rangers' form in derby encounters has been especially poor.
"We need to perform at our best against Brentford. It is going to be another tough game in the matter of a few days but we are used to it. This is the nature of the beast when playing in the Championship. Our form in London derbies has not been great this season and we need to change that starting on Saturday," added Hill.
QPR have not won a game against any of their neighbours with heavy defeats to Fulham being the hardest to swallow considering the Whites lowly position in the table.
In a bid to find positives, Chery scored his third goal in five games in the 2-0 victory over Derby.
