The Hammersmith & Fulham Youth Council wants to get more young people involved in local decision-making.
H&F's Youth Councillors have launched a new project to hear the thoughts and opinions of local young people which was welcomed by H&F Mayor, Cllr Patricia Quigley, at the recent launch event in Fulham Library.
The project will capture the experiences, views and wishes of young residents in H&F, focussing on the Youth Council's priorities of staying safe, life skills, work experience, mental and emotional health and wellbeing support.
The Youth Council has already made impactful changes within the council, such as helping the Gangs Unit to promote the "Fearless" anonymous reporting of crime service as well as providing information about safe access to sexual health and mental health services.
Young people can get involved via an online questionnaire and focus groups across the borough.
Take the online questionnaire below:
"It is important that we as a council listen to the voices of the young people of our borough today, because they will grow up to be the leaders of tomorrow," said H&F Mayor, Cllr Quigley.
"We aim to do things with residents rather than to them, so it is important we hear from as many young people as possible in the borough."
Hammersmith & Fulham Youth Parliament MP, Anastasia Odusanwo added:
"The Youth Council wants to hear the views that young people in the borough have about the four key areas of the manifesto which are mental health, work experience, life skills and staying safe. Once we have heard from young people, we will work on improving each area so that young people in the borough can flourish. We look forward to hearing everyone's views."
Once the research is conducted, the next step is for the Youth Council to meet with key senior council officers to understand how their findings could help improve the way the council delivers services for young people.
A multi-media, immersive showcase of the findings is planned by the Youth Council for December.
