Addison Primary - School Street Plus

Update 8 January 2025
The consultation is now closed and the Council is currently reviewing all the feedback received to determine which measures are taken forward to improve safety, health and quality of life around the schools. Please check back here for updates, which will be published as they become available.
Update 5 November 2024
Initial plans included school run closures during pick-up and drop-off times to make the roads around Addison Primary School safer.
As part of our public consultation, local residents have asked for a wider review of local travel issues. This includes concerns about the impact of construction traffic from the Olympia London redevelopment site.
As a result, we're pausing the School Streets Plus trial with barriers outside the school as we continue to review local feedback. We are not going to close any local streets from 6 November, and Addison Gardens and Bolingbroke Road will remain fully open 24/7.
We're continuing to listen to the school, parents and residents to ensure future improvements benefit the entire community. Speak to us at our drop-in sessions at Addison Primary School or your views via the survey below until 20 December.
Keep reading for details on our initial proposal.
Making school runs safer
Working with the school, we are exploring ideas to clean the air around the school, which can include anything from greening measures, to new better bike parking and more.
Please share your ideas in our survey below.
To protect pupils and make it easier to walk and cycle to schools during peak drop-offs and pick-up times, we are also proposing timed road closures on the streets surrounding the school entrance.
A stretch of Addison Gardens and Bolingbroke Road (highlighted in yellow in the map below) will be closed to motorists from ONLY 8am to 9.30am and 2.30pm to 4pm – and just on school days. The roads will remain open the rest of the time.
Signposting School Street Plus
Temporary barriers will help signpost and help drivers navigate the initial launch period. The barriers can be moved for exempt drivers as required and will be fully removed outside the timed closures. Safety stewards will be on hand to advise drivers on alternative routes.
Following an initial trial period, we will look to upgrade the scheme with automatic number plate recognition cameras which will not require physical barriers.
Road signage will help advise drivers of the new rules.
Exemptions
The following people are eligible for an exemption and can enter and leave the new School Street Plus at any time:
- Residents and businesses located on the restricted streets

We invite parents and carers to speak to us about the plans on Saturday 30 November from 10am - 12pm at Addison primary school or during school pick-up time on Thursday 5 December from 3.30 - 4.30pm at the school.
Residents, businesses and members of the local community are invited to join us for a dedicated drop-in session on Saturday 30 November from 10am - 12pm at Addison primary school.
