School clothing grants

Clothing allowances are available to help parents buy school uniforms for their children.

The clothing allowance is paid to children that are aged 4 and 7 before 1st September of the current year and is worth £31. The allowance rises to £79 for children aged 11 and 14 before 1st September.

Your children qualify for clothing grants to buy school uniforms if you:

  • receive income support, income based job seekers allowance or income related employment and support allowance or
  • are supported under the national asylum seekers support scheme (NASS) or
  • receive child tax credit (and not working tax credit) and your income is less than £16,040 a year.
