Electoral services beacon status

Electoral services beacon status

Hammersmith & Fulham has been awarded Beacon Status for delivering electoral services. Only two other councils - Swindon and Shrewsbury & Atcham - received the award.

The Beacon Scheme identifies excellence and innovation, and helps to share good practice across local government. The scheme is managed by the Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA).

Becoming a Beacon council

To gain Beacon status, councils go through a vigorous assessment process.

There are three stages - initial application (June 2006), a one day visit by assessors (November 2006), and a presentation and question session with assessors (January 2007).

The award was presented on 20th March 2007.

» Sharing good practice

As part of the Beacon Scheme, Hammersmith & Fulham electoral services are committed to sharing good practice with others in the electoral community.

Over the coming year we will be publishing case studies and material in the Sharing Good Practice section of this website.

We are also happy to host visits/secondments from other electoral offices.
